Careswitch can be added to Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, and other AI apps as a connector. Once connected, you can ask that AI app about your agency and have it do work in your workspace, using the same tools as Looper inside Careswitch. The connection uses an open standard called MCP (Model Context Protocol), so any app that supports custom MCP connectors can use it.
Who can connect
Only people with the Admin workspace role can connect an AI app to Careswitch. This is the same rule as the Assistant and Command Center. There is no separate setting to turn on and no API key to request.
If you are not an admin, the AI app will show an error like "MCP access requires admin permissions in at least one workspace" when you try to connect. Ask a workspace admin to set your Workspace Role to Admin (Workforce → open your profile → Employment → Edit → Workspace Role), then try again. See Roles and permissions for details.
The connector URL
Every AI app asks for the connector's URL. Use:
You do not need a client ID, client secret, or API key. Leave those fields blank if the app shows them. Careswitch authenticates you by having you sign in with your normal Careswitch login.
How to connect
The exact menu names vary by app, but the flow is the same everywhere:
In your AI app, find the place to add a connector, integration, or MCP server. In Claude this is under Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector. In ChatGPT, look under Settings for Connectors (an admin of your ChatGPT workspace may need to enable custom connectors first).
Give it a name such as Careswitch and paste https://ai.careswitch.com/mcp as the URL. Leave any client ID or secret fields blank.
Click Connect. A Careswitch window opens. If you are not already signed in, enter your Careswitch email or mobile number and then the 6-digit code that is sent to you.
On the Authorize Application screen, you will see the name of the AI app and the message that it is requesting access to a Careswitch workspace where you have admin permissions. If you are an admin in more than one workspace, pick the workspace you want to connect. Each connection is tied to one workspace.
Click Authorize. You are sent back to the AI app and Careswitch appears as a connected tool.
To use a different workspace later, remove the Careswitch connector in the AI app and add it again, choosing the other workspace when you authorize.
What the connection can do
The AI app gets the same tools Looper uses in Careswitch: looking up clients, caregivers, contacts, shifts, schedules, authorizations, billing, and payroll, and making changes such as creating or updating shifts, updating profiles, and drafting documents. It acts as you, within the permissions of your Admin role.
Important: a connected AI app can change live data in your workspace. If you want to explore safely, ask the AI to only look things up and to confirm with you before it changes anything.
Troubleshooting
"MCP access requires admin permissions in at least one workspace" — your Workspace Role is not Admin. Ask an admin to change it, then reconnect.
"MCP is unavailable while your workspace is inactive. Complete activation in CareSwitch first." — your workspace has not finished activation. Sign in to Careswitch on the web and complete setup, then reconnect.
The AI app asks for a client ID, secret, or API key — leave them blank. Careswitch registers the app automatically and signs you in with your Careswitch login.
You were asked to sign in again — a connection that goes unused for about six months expires. Signing out of Careswitch on the web does not disconnect it. Reconnect from the AI app.
The AI answers about the wrong workspace — each connection is tied to the workspace you chose when authorizing. Remove the connector and add it again to pick a different one.
Frequently asked questions
Why does connecting require the Admin role?
An external AI app can read and change anything Looper can, so it is limited to the same people who can use the Assistant and Command Center in Careswitch: workspace admins.
Which AI apps work?
Any app that supports custom MCP connectors with sign-in, including Claude, ChatGPT, and Cursor. If your app asks for an MCP server URL, it will work with Careswitch.
How do I disconnect?
Remove or disconnect the Careswitch connector inside the AI app. There is no disconnect button inside Careswitch itself, and signing out of Careswitch does not remove the connection.
Can I give a non-admin teammate connector access?
Not today. Connector access follows the Admin role only. If a teammate needs it, an admin can change their Workspace Role to Admin.
