Traditional and flexible shifts

Each client has shifts that determine when and where caregivers should be with that client. There are two types of shifts to accommodate different scheduling needs: traditional and flexible.

Regardless of the shift type, assigned shifts are all viewable by the caregiver in the My Shifts view. Caregivers can only see and interact with their own shifts and only clients they are currently assigned to are visible.

Traditional Shifts

Traditional shifts have scheduled start and end times with one assigned caregiver per shift and are managed and created from the All Shifts calendar view. They are "traditional" because these shifts tell the caregivers everything that they need to perform the shift: client, date and time, duration and location. The standard upcoming shift notifications, clock-in and out reminders and missed shift notifications are all sent when using traditional shifts.

Traditional shifts can be scheduled individually on an as-needed basis or can be created to repeat on a set schedule. Shifts can be made to repeat daily, every few days or weekly on certain days.

Flexible Shifts

Compared to traditional shifts, flexible shifts allow a group of caregivers of your choosing to clock-in and out and record care for a certain client at-will. They have no defined scheduled start and end times.

This means they will not send any notifications that would ordinarily be sent from traditional shifts. They are best used for a client whose scheduling needs are unpredictable and where using traditional scheduled shifts would be too erratic.
